While We Were Traveling by Bus , My Husband Suddenly Grabbed My Hand and Said, “Darling, Your Father Paid Me Every Month for 40 Years So You Would Never Discover the Real Reason We Never Had Children. But Now That Your Father Is Gone, I Have to Confess What Really Happened That Night When You Were 21.” When He Told Me the Truth, I Screamed for the Driver to Stop the Bus Immediately…

“I was a coward,” Robert whispered. “Every day I wanted to tell you, but I was afraid of losing you.”

I stared at my husband, barely recognizing the man with whom I’d spent my entire life.

“You stole sixty years from me.”

He simply nodded.

Then, with a trembling hand, he pointed out the bus window.

“I found her, Margaret. A year ago. And today, she’s waiting for us.”

Across the road was a small café.

Standing near the entrance was a woman around sixty years old.

Her hair had turned gray, but her eyes were exactly like mine.

When she saw me, she covered her mouth with both hands and began crying.

I slowly stepped off the bus.

The woman took a few steps toward me.

“Mom?”

That single word

was something I’d waited my entire life to hear.

I ran toward her and wrapped my arms tightly around her.
