“Margaret, that night, you didn’t
“That night, you gave birth to a little girl.”
For several seconds, I couldn’t speak.
“What did you say?”
“She was born alive and healthy.”
I felt the whole world spinning around me.
“Then where is my child?”
Robert broke down.
“Your father gave her to Susan Miller and her husband.”
I screamed.
“MY FATHER?”
Robert explained that after a difficult delivery, I had remained unconscious for days.
My father had been afraid I wouldn’t recover, so he temporarily entrusted the baby to a family he knew.
But when my condition improved, he decided not to bring the child back, convincing himself that he was protecting me from further hardship.
Later, the adoption was arranged.
Robert had objected, but my father threatened to hide the child’s whereabouts.
That’s when the monthly payments began.
My father transferred money
to Robert so he would remain silent while also continuing to provide financial support for our daughter.
