I sat on the floor beside the old wooden cabinet where the envelope had been hidden.
I removed every document.
Every photograph.
Every memory I had stored away.
And slowly, I began to realize something.
The envelope had not been placed randomly.
It had been hidden behind a false panel.
A space I had never noticed.
My heart started beating faster.
I ran my fingers along the edge of the cabinet.
There was a small gap.
A secret compartment.
My father had built that cabinet when I was a child.
I remembered watching him work on it.
He had smiled when I asked what he was making.
“A place for important things,” he had said.
At the time, I thought he meant books.
I never imagined he meant secrets.
With careful hands, I opened the compartment.
Inside was a small box.
Old.
Dusty.
Waiting.
For fifteen years.
I stared at it.
