My Husband Forgot Our 4-Year-Old Daughter to Surprise His First Love—By the Time He Reached the Hospital, It Was Too Late

Too close to what had happened.

“Did he ask you to tell me?”

“No. In fact, he specifically asked that nobody

use it to pressure you.”

I sat down.

Margaret continued.

“He said he wanted to do something useful with the money he once thought was more important than everything else.”

Tears rolled down my face.

I didn’t know how to feel.

Part of me was grateful.

Part of me was angry.

And part of me wanted to ask why Dominic had needed to lose Sophie before he understood that children needed more than expensive gifts.

“I hope it helps people,” I whispered.

“So do I.”

After we hung up, I sat on the bench for a long time.

The city moved around me.

Cars passed.

People laughed.

A little boy ran toward his father holding a red balloon.

I watched the father kneel and catch him in his arms.
