Every Night, When I Went to Work, I Left My 5-Year-Old Son With My 73-Year-Old Father. A Few Weeks Later, My Boy Started Complaining of Severe Lower Back Pain. When I Asked What Had Happened, He Answered Fearfully, “Mommy, Grandpa Told Me Not to Tell You What We Do at Night.”

And on the bed was an old photograph of my mother.

“GET AWAY FROM MY  CHILD!”

My scream startled Ben.

My father immediately tried to stand, but he lost his balance and had to sit down on the bed.

“Sarah? What are you doing here?”

I rushed to my son and wrapped my arms around him.

“Ben, sweetheart, did somebody hurt you?”

My little boy started crying even harder.

“Mommy, please don’t be mad at Grandpa.”

“Why does your back hurt? What’s going on here?”

My father tried

to approach us.

“Sweetheart, please let me explain.”

“You lied to me! My  child has been complaining of pain for weeks, and you keep pretending you don’t know anything!”

My father stood silently.

That was when I noticed his right hand. His fingers were trembling.

Suddenly, I remembered how he’d often complained about weakness over the past few months but refused to see a doctor.
