Every Night, When I Went to Work, I Left My 5-Year-Old Son With My 73-Year-Old Father. A Few Weeks Later, My Boy Started Complaining of Severe Lower Back Pain. When I Asked What Had Happened, He Answered Fearfully, “Mommy, Grandpa Told Me Not to Tell You What We Do at Night.”

He was silent for several seconds.

“Maybe he slept in an uncomfortable position, sweetheart.”

“Then why is he telling me that you warned him not to talk about something?”

I heard my father breathing heavily on the other end of the phone.

“Sarah, some things are better left unknown until the right time.”

I froze.

That evening, I took my son to the doctor. After examining him, the doctor advised us to avoid physical strain until we could determine what was causing the pain.

But the most terrifying part was still ahead.

The following day, I

found a folded piece of paper inside Ben’s little backpack.

It was written in my father’s handwriting.

“We have to finish tonight. Sarah mustn’t find out until everything is ready.”

My hands began trembling.

That night, I told my father I had to work.

But I never went to the hospital.
