Droopy eyelids can make the eyes look tired or older, but sometimes they are more than a cosmetic concern. A truly drooping upper eyelid is known medically as ptosis, and depending on its severity, it can even interfere with vision.
Why Do Eyelids Begin to Droop?
As we age, the skin around the eyes gradually loses elasticity. The muscles and tissues responsible for supporting the eyelids can also weaken or stretch over time.
However, aging isn’t the only possible explanation. Ptosis can be present from birth or develop later because of problems involving the eyelid muscles or nerves. Previous eye surgery, injury and certain medical conditions may also contribute.
