“You endangered three hundred people.”
“I gave them a chance to catch the people responsible.”
“You don’t gamble with human lives.”
Celeste’s gaze moved to Maya.
“Ask Ethan what he did.”
Maya felt something shift.
“What does that mean?”
Celeste stepped closer.
“Ask your ghost why Flight 417 was selected.”
Maya raised the radio.
“Ethan.”
No answer.
“Ethan.”
Still nothing.
Celeste’s expression softened.
“He won’t tell you.”
Maya’s pulse began to pound again.
“Tell me what?”
Celeste looked directly at her.
“Ethan put you on this flight.”
The cabin seemed to tilt.
“No.”
“He arranged the upgrade that moved you into seat 8A.”
Maya remembered.
She had booked economy.
At check-in, the airline unexpectedly moved her and Leo forward.
Celeste continued.
“He leaked the passenger manifest.”
Maya could barely speak.
“Why?”
“Because he needed the network to act tonight.”
Aaron shook his head.
“That makes no sense.”
