The white falcon insignia.
A tiny emergency storage module embedded beneath the lining.
Maya looked at him.
“The helmet is in my attic.”
Aaron shook his head.
“Your mother mailed a box to Madrid yesterday.”
Maya stopped breathing.
“She what?”
“She thought you might want some old things from your Air Force years during your trip.”
Maya closed her eyes.
Her mother.
Of course.
“She sent the helmet?”
“Yes.”
“The evidence is in Madrid.”
“If your copy still works.”
A slow realization spread through Maya.
“This flight isn’t about forcing Ethan to appear.”
Aaron nodded.
“It’s about stopping you from reaching Madrid.”
The cockpit door opened.
Celeste emerged.
She held no we/@/pon.
Her hands were empty.
Her eyes met Maya’s.
“Finally.”
Aaron moved between them.
Celeste smiled.
“You still think I’m the enemy, Aaron?”
“You took control of a passenger aircraft.”
“I exposed control that already existed.”
