A Doctor Married His Passing Patient – But After Her Funeral, Her Sister Handed Him a Box and Said, 'She Wanted You to Have This Only After She Was Gone'

A folded note lay beneath the notice.

Nora leaned over my shoulder before I could open it. Her face turned red.

"What the hell!" she shouted.

A folded note

"She left you Grandma's money?"

Nora pointed at the lawyer's letter. Her voice had gone sharp.

"I didn't know. I swear to you, I had no idea."

"Then why did you marry her?"

"It wasn't romantic. You knew that."

"What the hell!"

"I did." Her voice cracked. "And now I can see what you got out of it."

She pressed a hand to her mouth.

"No, I promise, it's not like that."

Nora backed away and pointed at me. "I'm reporting you to the hospital."

She walked away before I could answer.

"Now I can see what you got out of it."

I stayed beside the car with the box open.

If the hospital believed I'd married a patient for her money, I could lose my job.
