The coach knew my name—but what he revealed about Dustin changed how I could protect my daughter - usnews

So I turned to Ray.

“Do you have security cameras?”

His face tightened.

Dustin immediately looked at him.

“Ray.”

That one word told me more than Dustin intended.

Ray hesitated.

“Front entrance. Hallway. Main floor.”

“Locker rooms?”

“No.”

“What about the office?”

Ray nodded slowly.

“There’s one covering the corridor.”

Dustin stepped between us.

“Why are you answering him?”

Ray looked at him.

“Because his daughter is in the hospital.”

“She fell down the stairs.”

“Then cameras shouldn’t bother you.”

Dustin’s expression hardened.

I watched him carefully.

Not as a fighter.

As a father looking for the truth.

He glanced toward the hallway leading to the offices.

Just once.

But I saw it.

So did Ray.

“What happened here tonight?” I asked.

“Nothing,” Dustin said.

“I didn’t say tonight.”

His face changed again.

That was the first crack.

Small.

Almost invisible.

But it was there.

Ray folded his arms.
