“What aren’t you saying?”
She sighed.
“One business owner came into my office crying.”
Marcy shifted against her pillow.
Ellen continued.
“She and her husband owned a small restaurant. She said money had disappeared from one of their accounts. Thomas told them it was a bookkeeping mistake.”
“What happened?”
“They closed six months later.”
“Because of him?”
“I don’t know.”
That answer mattered.
We had all spent enough time assuming things.
I nodded.
“So we don’t know what Vale is doing. We only know Marcy saw him leaving Ray’s office.”
“Right.”
“And there are financial records connected to a company using Ray’s name.”
“Right.”
Marcy looked between us.
“What do we do?”
The old instinct rose immediately.
Go back to the gym.
Find Ray.
Demand answers.
But I remembered the promise I had made.
I looked at my daughter.
“What do you want to do?”
