From love. February 20th, 2011.
The Newton County Courthouse in Harrison was ringed with police.
People had lined up since five in the morning to see the
man who turned a honeymoon into an underground nightmare.
Trevor sat in a glass booth, perfectly calm.
He never looked at Ryan’s family. He only scribbled in a small notebook.
Even when the jury saw photographs of the bunker and of Ryan’s remains,
his face stayed blank. On February 22nd,
Camila walked in through a side door beside her lawyer and Dr.
Miller. Almost a year had passed.
She was still pale, her steps still careful, but the glassy stare was gone.
She was fifteen feet from the man who had stolen seven months of her life.
The prosecutor asked gently, “Camila,
can you tell the court what those months were like?”
Camila took a slow breath. “It was a world of sounds,” she said.
