“Did you forget about me?”
Tyler’s eyes filled with tears.
“No. But I acted in ways that made it seem like I did, and I’m sorry.”
Mason looked down at the table.
Then he reached into his backpack and pulled out the original drawing. I had found it in the hotel room after our trip, beneath the bed where it had fallen when he unpacked.
He had made another copy for himself.
He slid the original toward his father.
“You can keep this one,” he said. “But I’m not calling you the best pilot ever until you get better at being my dad.”
Tyler covered his mouth.
I turned away, giving them a moment I knew neither of them would forget.
The drawing didn’t fix our marriage.
An apology didn’t erase the announcement, the lies, or the months of betrayal that had come before it. Vanessa eventually ended her relationship with Tyler after discovering how much he had concealed from her, too.
