“Why?”
“Because he wanted your first experience of the property to be as a home, not as an investment.”
I sat at the kitchen table.
“How much is it worth?”
“An independent appraisal valued the land and improvements at approximately six million dollars.
That estimate excludes certain contractual rights attached to the property.”
I almost dropped the phone.
“Six million?”
“Yes.”
“My son received a penthouse.”
“Correct.”
“Then why did Thomas make it sound as though I was getting the lesser property?”
“He didn’t.”
I frowned.
“What?”
“Thomas made no such comparison in his instructions, Leah.
That assumption came from other people.”
I looked at the notebook.
Eleanor continued.
“There is something else you should know.
Several parcels bordering Hawthorne Ridge are being assembled for a major private resort project.”
My stomach tightened.
“Who’s developing it?”
A pause.
Then Eleanor answered.
“Vale Development Group.”
The room seemed to tilt.
