I looked toward the garden.

“I’m building a good life.”

He smiled

sadly.

“I’m glad.”

“Some days are still terrible.”

“Mine too.”

“But I’m working. I have friends. I’ve started painting again.”

“You always loved painting.”

“I remember you used to talk about having your own studio.”

I smiled faintly.

“I have a little one now.”

His eyes filled.

“That’s wonderful.”

“Have you found someone?”

He looked down.
