My Daughter Came Home Like a Completely Different Person from a Class Trip to Los Angeles – Until Her Teacher Asked, ‘She Didn’t Tell You What Really Happened?’

“I know he is.”

“Lily, I have never met that man in my life.”

She thrust the phone closer. “You expect me to believe this is all a coincidence?”

Lily gave a bitter laugh.

“You always start cleaning when I ask about my father. That’s how I know you’re hiding something.”

“I told you the truth. Your father left before you were born.”

“No. You hid him because he was famous.” Her voice broke. “You let me believe my father didn’t want me when he probably never knew I existed.”

“That isn’t what happened.”

“You deprived me of my father for fifteen years,” she said. “And I’ll never forgive you for it.”

“Lily, resemblance isn’t proof,” I said. “Max filmed in our county, but so did hundreds of other people. I never met him.”
