My Daughter Came Home Like a Completely Different Person from a Class Trip to Los Angeles – Until Her Teacher Asked, ‘She Didn’t Tell You What Really Happened?’

The moment Lily spotted Max, her face transformed. She raced past me and ran outside.

“Dad!”

Max raised one hand, stopping her before she could embrace him.

“Lily,” he said gently, “I need you to listen to me.”

Her smile faltered.

“But we look exactly alike.”

“I have never met your mother. And because of a medical condition diagnosed long before you were born, I cannot be your biological father.”

Lily stayed silent.

Max’s voice remained kind, but it became firmer. “You also need to understand that leaving your group was dangerous. Those guards couldn’t let you into a restricted area because of what you believed.”

Lily lowered her eyes. For the first time since she returned from Los Angeles, she looked ashamed rather than angry.
