According to a detailed timeline of the attack, authorities said the person responsible arrived at the residence at approximately 5:49 p.m. Around 11 minutes later, neighbors believed they heard what sounded like fireworks.
In the summertime, Yellowstone County Sheriff Kent O'Donnell explained that kind of noise would not necessarily have immediately alarmed anyone. But by 6:02 p.m., dispatchers had received a call from a female voice inside the house.
