Aaron did.
His voice came from above.
“Because Celeste isn’t part of the network.”
Maya looked upward.
“What are you talking about?”
Aaron’s face appeared through the hatch.
“I recognized her.”
“From where?”
“She worked with Ethan.”
The compartment seemed suddenly colder.
Maya whispered, “Doing what?”
Aaron hesitated.
“Counterintelligence.”
Maya stared at him.
“You mean she’s one of yours?”
“She was.”
“Then what is happening?”
Aaron looked toward the cockpit.
“I think this entire operation has split into two sides.”
Maya climbed out.
“Explain.”
“No time.”
“Make time.”
Aaron lowered his voice.
“Ethan’s investigation began with one network, but three years ago another group formed inside it. Celeste believed the only way to expose everyone was to let them complete a real-world demonstration.”
Maya stared in disbelief.
“With passengers?”
“She was never authorized.”
“So she went rogue.”
“Yes.”
Maya turned toward the cockpit.
“And what does she want from me?”
