Graham walked toward the drinks cabinet.

“Daniel identified a genuine discrepancy,” he said.
Adrian felt his heartbeat increase.
“What discrepancy?”
“A load distribution model.”
“And?”
“And subsequent testing showed that the original calculation should have been revised.”
“So Daniel was right.”
“Partially.”
“Was he fired for being right?”
Graham turned.
“No.”
“Then why?”
“Because Daniel stopped trusting anyone.”
The rain tapped gently against the library windows.

Adrian watched him.
“Why did eight Rivergate engineering reports disappear from the archive?”

“That was four years ago.”
“The system doesn’t accidentally skip eight reports.”
Graham set down his glass.
“Some material was transferred to legal custody after Daniel’s death.”
“Arthur’s custody?”
