half later, I came back to pick Emily up.
The door was locked.
I rang the bell. No answer. I rang again.

My heart started beating faster.
I still had a spare key to the house.
I opened the door.

I stopped in the hallway.
Then I heard my father’s voice.
“I know. That’s why I still haven’t told your mother.”
My stomach dropped.
I moved closer.
“If she finds out, she’ll worry,” Emily said.
My father answered,
“One day, we’re going to have to tell her.”

I pushed open the door.
They both turned around.
