The Person Who Called 911 Was Inside the Home
Police eventually confirmed that 12-year-old Charlotte Ghekiere was the person who called 911. Jennifer later put the family's feelings into words. "Charlotte was the hero that dialed 911," she said. "She tried to save her family. She lived by her favorite quote, 'I love you more.'"
Jennifer similarly said the family wanted the public to know about the child's actions. "The one thing we do know is that Charlotte was the hero," she said. "And that's something the family does want out there." For Adam, those words carry another deeply personal meaning. "I keep hearing her quote to me every time I would say 'I love you' and she would say 'I love you more,'" he recalled.
Yet as heartbreaking as Charlotte's attempt to get help was, investigators were also piecing together another question: Who could have entered a family dinner and committed such an act? The answer was someone those inside knew extremely well.
