“Take care of her.”
Melissa looked down at Hope.
“We will.”
Ryan met my eyes.
“We will.”
I stepped outside into the evening air and paused on the walkway.
Through the window, I could see the three of them together.
They weren’t a perfect family.
They didn’t have every answer.
But they were finally facing their challenges honestly.
And sometimes, that is where healing begins.
Not when every problem disappears.
Not when fear stops existing.
But when people decide they will stop hiding from one another.
That night, for the first time since Hope’s birth, I felt hopeful too.
Maybe everything wouldn’t be easy.
Maybe there would be difficult days ahead.
But no one was running anymore.
And sometimes, choosing to stay and face the truth together is the first real step toward becoming a family.
